The objective was to evaluate a reforestation carried out by the goldwashers. The studied area is situated along the Gualaxo do Norte river margins in Mariana - MG. The seedlings were received by donation of regional nurseries and were planted on December of 2006 in hole of 25x25 cm and plant spacing 3x2 meters. The evaluations were carried through on March of 2007. The height was measured with metric ribbon and the diameter, 5 cm above the ground, was done by using digital pachymeter. They planted 538 seedlings of 20 different species, pertaining to twelve botanical families. The most abundant species were Enterolobium contortisiliquum (96), Mimosa schomburgkii (76) and Chorisia speciosa (45). It was not possible to identify 19 individuals due to leafless or seedlingssmall size. The most numerous families were Leguminosae/Mimosoideae (142) and Leguminosae/Caesalpinoideae (122). The first evaluation showed that 481 seedlings had survived (89.4%). The seedlings average height was 59,8 cm and the average diameter was 7,3 mm. It was verified that the species used for the reforestation, as well as the spatial distribution, were not the most appropriate for this ecosystem, but even so the seedling growth can be considered satisfactory.
